Madonna confirmed as queen of style Madonna's status as a top trendsetter has been cemented after she was named the world's top fashion icon at the Elle Style Awards in London.

Known as one of the most prestigious of fashion awards events, the star-studded ceremony at Camden's Roundhouse paid tribute to the material girl for her individual and ever-evolving sense of style throughout her long career.

And Madonna will soon be bringing her fashion wisdom onto the high street with the launch of her own range of designer clothing through store H&M.

However, one fellow awards guest who is not a fan of Madonna's look is Peaches Geldof, who claimed that the 48-year-old star was "irrelevant" to today's youth.

She said: "In the 80s Madonna was a style icon but now she's rehashing everything that's been done already," the Mail reports.

Other winners at the awards included Naomi Campbell, who was named best model, Stella McCartney, who won a gong for Best International Designer, and Penelope Cruz, who picked up the best film award for Volver.
